The Process

Your story is written, but your journey starts here.

Storyboarding

Every story starts somewhere.

A storyboard will help us get a full vision for your project and is a quick glimpse into what your book can become!

Dummies

The lines are drawn.

Now is the time to decide how we would like to finish it all off. Are you looking for full color? Or perhaps vignettes and spots will tell your story best.

Painting

Now in full color.

All our art is hand drawn and painted to give you storytelling that has a timeless and classic feel. Once the paint goes down we see your work come to life!

If all this is new to you that's okay! I will help you make these decisions to give you most magic possible within your budget.

Need help visualizing all this lingo? We have created a guide to show you what all this looks like in process!

The Finishing Touches

The art is drawn up, all that's left is to click publish.

Rendering

Your book is almost finished!

Once the paint has dried all our work will be digitally rendered and retouched to give us the best quality for printing. At this stage we will lay out the text and finalize any final details.

We have reached the finish line.

Your illustrations are ready and it's time to share your words with the world. You will receive a full pdf of your artwork and cover to use with your chosen publisher.

Should you choose to pursue ARC readers this document can also be used for ARC distribution. Other finished forms can be discussed as need on a case by case basis.

Marketing

I want to be as proud of this as you are.

I am happy to include character art (.png) in all my packages at no additional cost. These would be selections of pre-existing works used in the book content pages that could be used as marketing tools for this project (stickers, bookmarks, Social Media, etc.).

Art Types & Timelines

Timelines on average aim to be between three and six months from project start date, but can exceed this depending on the nature of the work requested. If you have proposed deadlines please note these in your inquiry so we can check our availability to make this happen on time!

Lovely Lines

Starting From: €1,500

You are looking for simple illustrations with a personal touch. This style is for printing in limited range color, tighter timelines, and leans itself to stories with quirky or moody elements.

Mixed Medley

Starting From: €2,500

You want art that has a touch of color, with all the definition of classic linework. This style suits those who want a little bit of everything in their illustrations to bring their project to life. If you are looking for playful and fun this could be where we begin.

Watercolor Wonders

Starting From: €3,500

You want full color illustrations that are timeless and full of life. This is our most popular style and allows for spot art or full bleed flexibility with heavy focus on the painted aspects. If you want timeless illustration, full watercolor is for you.

Typically most authors might spend between €3,500 - €10,000 on illustrations for full (on average 32 page) children's book. Your project may have more demands than another, or may have less! Just as we have a large range of art styles, we have a large range of pricing that is dependent on design elements and number of illustrations required. If you have a budget please note this in your inquiry so we can provide tailored quote to suit your needs.

Packages & Pricing

The Nitty Gritty

Once your manuscript has been received and we have determined that we are a good fit for each other, I will reach out with a package quoting and outlining your options. Your quote is tentative and as we get into the nitty gritty of the project can be tweaked as we see fit. There is no need to stress the particulars here.

Once you are comfortable with your quote we can arrange a deposit of 25% of the quoted amount to reserve your time in my calendar. The second 25% of your payment will be paid once your project formally begins and the final 50% on completion of the project before final delivery. Payment plans can be arranged on request.

It is important to me that you see our relationship as collaborative. I don't ever want you to feel like your voice is lost in the process and want to encourage open communication. If you have any questions please ask. If you don't love something, or want to workshop a point, I want to do that too. In the same way, I hope you feel the same respect for me in return. I might come to you if a scene isn't lining up with the phrasing, if I feel the imagery needs adjusting to really get your voice across, or in places where the art can do some of the talking so your words don't have to be so heavy. My goal is always to make sure your work shines.

Once I have received your manuscript or outline and our quote has been finalized, we might schedule a video chat or call to walk through the storyboarding process. At this point you are welcome to share any illustration requests, general concepts, settings, etc. that are must haves. I will then go away and once the completed storyboard has been worked up I will share this with you for review. We are welcome to schedule another chat at this time to go over any concerns you may have or final outline tweaks. Once the storyboard has been agreed we might confirm any final illustration desires, colors, details, etc.

Post storyboarding I will create the base sketches or ‘Dummies’ from those concepts. It is here that your package quote can be adjusted to include any artwork type changes that might become apparent through storyboarding.

Many of our works are hand drawn and painted. I will always send you the final sketch for review and approval prior to putting paint down, so any last minute adjustments can be made prior to painting and rendering.  Once artwork is finalised and rendered, I am happy to tweak digitally, sizing colors, etc., to get it right, however it is my hope you have trust in me as your artist to make informed final decisions. If there are major changes it will incur an additional hourly fee to accommodate for my time, at my current rate.

I ask that you also remember you are hiring a fine artist type illustrator when working with me. The rights of the art created are non exclusive and will be maintained by myself. As an artist it is important to me that I maintain copyright to the imagery being used and created.  Please note, I work actively within the fine art and visual art field and any art created with care for your project will also be subject to portfolio inclusion, gallery viewing, and resale thereof.
